The Essence Foundation Stick is formulated to provide coverage while incorporating a blend of active ingredients designed to enhance the skin's appearance. The primary component is water (aqua), comprising approximately 20-30% of the formula, serving as a solvent for the other ingredients. The foundation stick utilizes a combination of silicones, such as Dimethicone and Cyclopentasiloxane, serving as emollients that reduce the surface tension of the formulation, leading to a smooth application and improved skin feel. Silicones also form a breathable barrier on the skin, which can assist in reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Active pigments, including Titanium Dioxide and Iron Oxides, are incorporated for their light-reflecting properties and their ability to provide physical UV protection, contributing to an SPF factor. Titanium Dioxide functions by scattering UV radiation, reducing its penetration into the skin layers. Iron Oxides, particularly those in the red and yellow spectrum, ensure color-matching efficacy for a variety of skin tones. Additional ingredients, such as Glycerin and Sodium Hyaluronate, act as humectants, attracting water from the environment and providing moisture to the skin. Glycerin, with a typical viscosity around 1.5 to 3.0 mPa·s at room temperature, interacts with skin cells in the stratum corneum, enhancing hydration levels and potentially improving the skin barrier function.
